Getting Married at the Royal Garrison Church

Couples thinking of getting married should contact the Senior Chaplain as soon as possible on 07760 171582.  He will arrange to see you to discuss your plans and complete any necessary legal paperwork.  NO DATES can be agreed without an interview with the Senior Chaplain

Getting married is a very special time in any relationship.  We are delighted that the Royal Garrison Church is a place that couples feel they would wish to come and seal their relationship together in love and in the eyes of God.   As with any church, we are under canonical law, and we must abide by certain rules.  Every couple must qualify in two specific areas:  Status and Residence.

Status.  To be married in the Royal Garrison Church one of the parties involved must be member of the Church of England and fall into one of the following categories:

a.    One of the parties is serving in the Armed Forces and posted to a unit serving in the Aldershot Garrison.

b.    Be a member or former member of the Armed Forces (except those called during wartime or other national emergency (i.e. National Service).

c.    A Reservist who has been called up.

d.    You are the daughter of a member or former member of the Armed Forces.

e.     One of the parties is a regular worshipper at the Royal Garrison Church and is listed on the Electoral Roll. (Please note that to be listed on the Electoral Roll you must have attended the church at a regular service at least twice a month for a minimum period of six months).

Residence.

a.    One of the parties is serving in the Armed Forces and posted to a unit serving in the Aldershot Garrison. The other party will require Banns to be called in a parish where they reside.

 b.    One of the parties is listed on the Electoral Roll at the Royal Garrison Church.

NOTE: If you are unsure about the above requirements please contact the Senior Chaplain as soon as possible.

Marriage Preparation

Clearly wedding preparation is very important.  At the moment there is no formal wedding preparation course held at the church. It has been agreed that any couple wishing to marry at the Royal Garrison Church should attend for two Sunday's each month commencing from the date of interview until the week prior to the weeding day, this we believe will allow the opportunity for the couple to feel welcome and prepared for their future marriage.

Special and Common Licence.  If you do not fall into these categories all is not lost but you would need to speak with the Senior Chaplain who would best advice you on the way forward.

All marriages are performed according to the Rites of the Church of England.

Please note the Royal Garrison Church does NOT allow 'Taped or CD music' at weddings due the infringement of copyright law.

The Royal Garrison Church is a very popular place to be married.  We always advise that before making any plans concerning other aspects of your wedding you speak with the Senior Chaplain.
